Subject:unidentified temple strut
Posted By: Matthew Kapstein Fri, Feb 09, 2018 IP: 2602:306:bd2f:de00:f

The attached was sold in NYC in the mid-60s as "South Indian." I believe that that is incorrect, but I have not been able to establish its true provenance. It does not closely resemble temple struts from the Kathmandu Valley with which I am familiar. Some suggest SE Asia, but I have not established so far any plausible origin there. One expert suggested 18th c. Gujarat, but I am not sure on what basis. Any help to clear up the mystery will be most welcome. Thanks in advance for your ideas.
