Could anyone help me identify the artist and time period of this woodblock print?

Your print is repro of a print by Hiroshige I and is Station #25 (Kanaya: The Far Bank of the Ôi River (Kanaya, Ôigawa engan)) from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tôkaidô (Tôkaidô gojûsan tsugi no uchi), also known as the First Tôkaidô or Great Tôkaidô.

The original was printed 1833/34. Here is an original at the Boston MFA:

Thanks Stan. An envelope was with the print (photo attached). I should have included this with the original posting. I feel quite ignorant on this subject. Who is Ichiryusai Hiroshige? When was this reproduction produced?

See the link at the bottom for the Wikipedia page for Hiroshige. See the link here for the Wikipedia page on the Tokaido Road:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dkaid%C5%8D_(road)

If you want to travel the 53 Stations of Hiroshige's (Great) Tokaido road, go to this link:

http://www.hiroshige.org.uk/hiroshige/Tokaido_Series/Tokaido_Great.htm

Click on each station picture for a larger version.

From the label, it looks like they send you the Hiroshige print and a current picture/photo of the matching station every month. Actually, I'd be interested to see the current locations compared to the prints.

I can't tell for sure when your print was made, but I'd guess that this was a promotion in the mid 1900s. My guess is based on the phone number, which (to me) appears to predate the current international phone system.

Cheers,
Stan
